Specifying the Target User

  Microsoft Speech Technologies Homepage

This topic provides sample content describing the intended user, which is one part of an application specification. For an overview, see Creating a Speech Application Specification. See Speech Application Specification Template for a template to use in creating an application specification.

External Callers

The primary customer is a person calling in from outside.

Priority Justification

  • The volume of external calls is larger than the volume of internal calls.
  • Internal employees have other effective means of getting in touch with other internal employees (Outlook and Outlook Web Access).

Characteristics

Pertinent characteristics of external callers:

  • May not expect a speech service to answer the call.
  • May not know how to talk to a speech service.
  • Larger number of one-time users vs. repeat callers.
  • Likely not to have a good understanding of what speech recognition is (and more important, is not) capable of.
  • Will want to get in touch with the person (or entity) as quickly as possible.
  • Some may prefer talking to a human.
