Applies to: Viva Insights admin and AI admin
Behavioral insights provide a deeper understanding of how an organization gets work done, such as through focus, learning, network, collaboration, and meetings. They do not measure Copilot or AI agent usage.
By default, behavioral insights are disabled for new customers and existing customers who haven't previously accessed them.
What happens when behavioral insights are turned off
When behavioral insights are turned off, Viva Insights only uses Copilot-related analytics. Microsoft 365 collaboration data such as meetings, chats, emails, and calls are not used for analysis. As a result, several analytics capabilities aren't available.
What users can access
Business leaders, delegates, and analysts can access the Microsoft Copilot dashboard, and Copilot reports such as the Copilot Studio agents report and the Copilot for Sales adoption report.
Analysts can create custom person queries and export Copilot metrics.
Analysts can run Power BI report templates that don't incorporate behavioral data.
Analysts can also set up the Skills landscape and Learning Culture reports.
What's not available
Analysts can't run custom meeting queries, cross-collaboration queries, or external collaboration queries.
Reports don't show metrics based on behavioral signals such as meetings, emails, chats, networks, focus time, or after-hours work.

The AI admin or Viva Insights admin can enable Behavioral insights using Viva Feature Access Management (VFAM) or PowerShell.
How to enable or disable behavioral insights
The AI admin or Viva Insights admin can enable or disable behavioral insights at any time at the tenant level using the "Behavioral insights" feature access management control in the Microsoft 365 admin center, or using PowerShell.
Using the Microsoft 365 admin center
Go to Viva Insights Feature Access Management (VFAM) in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
Under Manage datasets in Viva Insights, select or clear the setting for Behavioral insights.
- If you're turning on behavioral insights, also select Advanced Analysis.
Note
If a policy for behavioral experiences doesn't exist for your tenant, select Add policy to create a new policy. If a policy exists for behavioral experiences, select Edit policy to edit the policy.
