I downloaded splviewer, however now that application thinks it owns all my spl files and I still can't convert to pdf

Hi all!
When I press "Keep Printed Documents" in advanced settings it saves as a SPL and SHD file.
Is there an easy way to change it into a pdf/ a way I can automate changing it into a pdf?

The situation
Friend spent hours layouting pages for a brochure I'm compiling. Problem was that his software, being bundled with a printer, only could send the layout to that printer.
The SPL files
I googled some, shut off the friend's printer and sent the layout to the printer as per usual. The spool files were neatly sitting at C:\Windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS. Couldn't copy/paste them from there (for... reasons?) but I could add them to a zip and take them home.
SPLview
Luckily, SPLview allows you to print. So I selected MS Print to Pdf. One of the most roundabout ways I have ever achieved anything, but I finally have my pdf files.

There are multiple SPL to PDF converters available on the internet.
I’m not able to link you to them here, but a quick search on Google reveals many options.
