I have been locked out of my account due to microsoft trying to verifying my account but will not send me a text with a code to my #. After many attempts I was locked out. The last 2 digits are my # and I have entered them correctly. I do not understand how else to get into it. Perhaps their system is messed up or made a mistake. I have no number to contact them. I should just try to call random microsoft #'s to get a actual person as this is getting ridiculous.

Hey there! Nice to meet you!

Based on your description, your account is temporarily blocked due to the system detecting unusual activity. You will also not be able to receive the verification codes if your account is blocked because of unusual activity as a security measure.

Since you have access to your recovery phone number, please perform these steps to fix the verification method error:

    1. Perform a password reset via Incognito/InPrivate window using different devices and network services.
    2. If it doesn't work, wait exactly 48 hours to reset the password.
    3. If the issue persists, kindly wait exactly 1 week to perform another password reset. The idea is to wait for the account lock to expire first before you reset the password, as stated in this article: https://support.microsoft.com/account-billing/troubleshooting-verification-code-issues-409090c4-92b5-42b9-8ae6-bcc97e62fc48#:~:text=If%20you%20received%20a%20Microsoft%20verification%20code%20that%20you%20did#:~:text=If%20you%20received%20a%20Microsoft%20verification%20code%20that%20you%20did

Important: Please make sure not to attempt to sign in or reset the password within that timeframe (48 hours or 1 week), as this may reset the lock cooldown.

Thank you for your understanding! Please feel free to let me know if you need anything else.

    Best regards,

    Darhyl

Microsoft may temporarily block sending verification codes if there is unusual or excessive activity, or if there is suspicious traffic from your region. When that happens, repeated attempts to request more codes can extend the block, so it’s important to stop retrying for a while.

    Use these steps in order:

    1. Wait and avoid repeated requests
      • Stop requesting new codes for a period of time. Excessive or repetitive requests to the same or alternative phone numbers can cause Microsoft to block sending verification codes.
      • Some blocks and delivery delays are temporary and resolve automatically after some time, especially if there is heavy compromised traffic from your geographical location.
    2. Check the phone number and device
      • Make sure the number on the screen really is the correct mobile number (Microsoft only shows the last two digits for security, but confirm they match).
      • Ensure the phone can receive SMS from unknown numbers and that no SMS-blocking or spam-filtering setting is preventing messages from Microsoft.
      • Confirm the SMS inbox is not full and that the messaging app is working properly.
      • If the number is a VOIP number, it will not work. VOIP numbers cannot be used to receive Microsoft verification codes; a mobile phone number is required.
    3. Try a different method or update security info (if possible)
      • If any other sign-in method is listed (alternate email, different phone, authenticator app), choose that instead of SMS.
      • If access to the account is still available on some device, go to the Security info page and select Update info to add or change the phone/email used for verification.
    4. If the account is locked and codes still do not arrive
      • If the Microsoft account is locked, use the online unlock and recovery options. For locked Microsoft accounts, the quickest way to unlock is usually to request and enter a security code online using any phone number that can receive text messages (it does not have to be already associated with the account).
      • If a “usage limit exceeded” or similar message appears when requesting a code, it means the phone number has been used too many times in a short period or something suspicious was detected about that number. In that case, waiting before trying again or using a different phone number is required.
    5. If still unable to sign in
      • If codes still do not arrive and no alternative method is available, it may be necessary to wait until access to the listed phone or email is possible, or to complete the account recovery/unlock process as prompted on the sign-in page.
      • For additional technical help with verification code issues or sign-in problems, use the sign-in helper and Contact Support options described in the verification-code troubleshooting article. Support agents cannot send verification codes or directly change account details, but they can guide through the available recovery options.
