Can not Access Microsoft Teams. "Sorry, something went wrong, please try again"

I am unable access Microsoft teams. Whenever I do so, I am greeted with the incredibly frustrating generic message:

User's image

I get the SAME result whether I attempt to access teams via the App from the Microsoft Store OR I attempt to use the Web Based version of teams.

My guess is that I have my credentials cached/stored somewhere and they are obsolete.

Can someone PLEASE help.

Joe

    Hello

Are you on Windows 11, or MacOS?

Can you try this first - launch web browser in incognito mode, then use this link https://teams.microsoft.com/v2, and tell me how it goes.

Work through these steps in order, focusing on clearing cached credentials and testing connectivity, since the issue affects both the desktop app and the web version.

    1. Confirm basic connectivity
      • Open a browser and visit any website to ensure the internet connection is working.
      • If using a VPN or corporate proxy, temporarily disconnect from the VPN or disable the proxy and try Teams again.
    2. Fully sign out and back in
      • In the Teams client (if it opens far enough), choose Use another account and sign in with the correct Microsoft 365/Teams account.
      • If that is not possible, continue with cache clearing below.
    3. Clear Teams cache on the device
      • Quit Teams completely (right‑click the Teams icon in the taskbar/system tray and select Quit).
      • On Windows, open File Explorer and go to:
        • %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams
        • Delete all contents of this folder.
      • Restart Teams and sign in again.
      • On macOS, quit Teams, then delete ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams, then reopen Teams and sign in.
Note: This removes cached web content, icons, thumbnails, and local message history but does not uninstall Teams or delete the account.
    4. If Teams still cannot reconnect
      • Try the web client at https://teams.microsoft.com/ from a different browser or an incognito/private window to bypass stored cookies and cached sign‑in data.
      • If using browser-based Teams, temporarily disable ad blockers and similar extensions.
    5. Reinstall Teams if needed
      • Uninstall Teams from the device.
      • Install the latest version again from the Microsoft Store or official download, then sign in.
    6. Check for service or account issues
      • Verify there is no general service incident by checking the Microsoft 365 status account on X (Twitter): https://x.com/MSFT365Status.
      • If the error persists across devices and networks, contact the organization’s IT admin. There may be an issue with the Microsoft 365/Teams account, domain, or Microsoft Entra ID configuration that only an admin can correct.

If a specific error/status code appears on the sign‑in screen at any point (for example 0xCAA90018 or 0xCAA20003), use the corresponding troubleshooting action from the status-code table in the references below (such as correcting system date/time or re‑entering the correct Microsoft 365 credentials).
