A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
Hello Mick Bean,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum!
I understand that you are having issue with OneDrive Sign-In. I truly understand how you feel. Let me assist you go through this situation.
- Reset the OneDrive sync app (most common fix)
This clears the local OneDrive sync state and forces it to rebuild.
- Press Windows key + R
- Paste this and press OK: %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
- Then start OneDrive again: Start > type OneDrive > open it.
Notes: After a reset, OneDrive may do a “full re-check” and you might need to reselect which folders to sync.
- Clear OneDrive cached sign-in credentials (fixes “internet”/auth loops)
If OneDrive is using expired/corrupted cached credentials, it can fail sign-in and misleadingly show “no internet.”
- Press Windows key + R
- Paste: %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\settings
- Delete: PreSignInSettingsConfig.json
- Launch OneDrive and try signing in again.
- Rule out firewall/VPN/ISP filtering (fast test: phone hotspot)
Even when browsing works, some firewalls/VPNs/ISPs can block the specific Microsoft endpoints OneDrive uses to authenticate.
- Temporarily disconnect VPN (if any) and retry sign-in.
- Test with your mobile phone hotspot (connect laptop to hotspot > try OneDrive sign-in). If it works on hotspot, your router/ISP/firewall is likely blocking OneDrive traffic.
- Make sure Windows + OneDrive are fully updated (especially if it started “this morning”)
Connection-related OneDrive issues include ensuring Windows Update is fully applied and that you’re on the latest OneDrive version, then restarting the PC.
I hope this will help with your situation. Please feel free to reach back if you have further update or more questions.
