Microsoft charged me for a subscription that had been previously cancelled. It was a recurring payment using Paypal that Microsoft accessed. Trying to get answers here is impossible as a live person is never available. I will have to dispute this erroneous charge through my bank because of Microsofts inability to assit in this matter.....

    Hello,

This is a public forum, so for your privacy and security, we can’t help with billing issues here. Also, no one in this forum has access to your account or payment information.

To get help, open the "Get Help" app on your computer (just search for it in the Start menu). or go to https://support.microsoft.com/contactus, Type "Billing" and press Enter. On the next screen, click "Contact support" at the bottom of the page, then choose "Microsoft 365" > "Manage my subscription". You’ll then see the option to chat with a Microsoft support agent who has access to your account to help review the issue.

A previously cancelled Microsoft subscription can still be charged in a few common situations, and there are specific steps to resolve it.

    1. Check why the charge occurred
      • Cancellations must be made more than 2 days before the billing date. If the cancellation was too close to the renewal date, one more payment can still be processed. Go to the Subscriptions page at https://account.microsoft.com/services and confirm the subscription end date and status (ended vs. active/renewing).
      • Verify that the correct Microsoft account was cancelled. If there are multiple accounts, the charge may be tied to a different one. Use the same account that shows the PayPal-based subscription.
    2. Investigate the specific charge
      • Go to the Manage your payments page of the Microsoft account dashboard and select “Investigate” on the unrecognized or incorrect charge. This workflow is designed specifically for unexpected Microsoft billing entries and will walk through likely causes and next steps.
      • Common causes include:
        • Recurring billing still enabled on a subscription.
        • A previously declined charge being retried.
    3. Turn off recurring billing / cancel
      • On https://account.microsoft.com/services, locate the subscription that is still being billed.
      • Select Manage, then follow How to cancel your Microsoft subscription (linked from the payment-method article) to cancel or turn off recurring billing so no further PayPal charges occur.
    4. Request a refund from Microsoft
      • After confirming which subscription generated the charge and ensuring recurring billing is off, follow the guidance in How to get a refund on a Microsoft subscription (linked from the cancellation and billing articles) to check eligibility and submit a refund request for the erroneous renewal.
    5. If the charge truly does not match any subscription
      • If the charge cannot be matched to any subscription or account after using Manage your payments → Investigate, treat it as a potential fraudulent or misapplied charge.
      • Use the Get Help / Contact Support / Call me back or Chat with a support agent options described in the Q&A references to reach Microsoft billing support and have them review and credit the charge where appropriate.
      • If Microsoft and the payment investigation still cannot locate or correct the charge, disputing it with the bank or PayPal is appropriate, as described in the Q&A guidance.

These steps ensure the root cause (recurring billing, wrong account, or unrecognized charge) is identified, the subscription is properly stopped, and a refund or dispute path is followed.
