What happens to saved docs if we uninstall MS365 Personal on a computer?

I installed MS365 on husbands laptop using my sign-in, and my docs now appear on his laptop. If we delete 365 on his laptop, will that erase all my docs too, or will they remain in the cloud and on my computer?

Hi, I'm Rodrigo and I will help you.
Uninstalling the Microsoft 365 apps from the computer will not affect the files stored locally and the files stored in the cloud.

Your files are appearing on your husband's laptop because after you sign in with your account, your files stored in the cloud are synced.

Uninstalling Microsoft 365 from the laptop does not delete documents stored in OneDrive or on other devices.

    What happens in this scenario:

    1. Files in OneDrive (the cloud)
      • Any documents saved to OneDrive stay in the cloud under the Microsoft account, even if Microsoft 365 is uninstalled from a device.
      • They remain accessible from other devices (like the main computer) and via a browser at OneDrive.com when signed in with the same account.
    2. Files synced locally on the husband’s laptop
      • If OneDrive is syncing files to a folder on the laptop, uninstalling Microsoft 365 alone does not automatically delete those local copies.
      • To remove the documents from that laptop, they must be deleted from the local OneDrive-synced folders (or OneDrive must be unlinked/its local folder removed). Be careful: deleting synced files can also delete them from the cloud unless OneDrive sync is stopped or configured appropriately.
    3. Files on the main computer
      • Files stored locally on the main computer are unaffected by uninstalling Microsoft 365 on another device.
      • Files stored in OneDrive and synced to the main computer remain available there as long as they are not deleted from OneDrive.
    4. Effect of signing out vs uninstalling
      • Signing out or removing the account from Office on the husband’s laptop mainly affects access and personalization: recent file lists, custom settings, and the ability to create/edit files, but not the underlying documents stored in OneDrive.

In summary: uninstalling Microsoft 365 from the husband’s laptop will not erase documents from OneDrive or from the other computer. Only deleting the files themselves (especially from a synced OneDrive folder) would remove them from the cloud.
