Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
Follow these steps to resolve the issue where Office shows as not purchased/activated after redeeming the key from Amazon:
- Confirm how Office should be activated
For current Microsoft 365/Office versions, activation is done by signing in with the Microsoft account that was used to redeem or buy the product, not by re‑entering the product key in the apps.
After a key is redeemed, the product is attached to that Microsoft account and can be installed/activated from there. - Sign in with the correct Microsoft account
In Word/Excel/PowerPoint on the Mac, if prompted to activate:- Choose to sign in (not “enter a product key”).
- Enter the same Microsoft account that was used when the key was redeemed or when the purchase was completed.
If the wrong account is used, Office will show messages like “no license found” or “product not purchased.”
- Verify the license is attached to the account
- Go to the Microsoft account, Services & subscriptions page and sign in with the account used to redeem the key.
- Check that the corresponding Office/Microsoft 365 product appears under Services & subscriptions.
- If it does not appear, the key may have been redeemed under a different Microsoft account; try other accounts that might have been used.
- Reinstall without using the product key again
If Office was installed from another source or is not activating correctly:- Uninstall any incorrect or trial Office versions from the Mac.
- From the Services & subscriptions page (with the correct account signed in), download and install Office from there.
- After installation, open an Office app and sign in with the same Microsoft account to activate. A product key is not needed again.
- If activation still fails or shows Unlicensed Product
- Ensure the sign‑in account in the Office app matches the one that shows the license online.
- If the app continues to show unlicensed or disabled features, follow the activation troubleshooting guidance for “Unlicensed Product and activation errors in Office,” starting with confirming the correct account is used.
If the Amazon key was already redeemed to a different Microsoft account (for example, by another family member or by mistake), the only way to use that license is to sign in with that same account; the key itself cannot be moved or reused under a different account once redeemed.
