I am unable to close my account, delete my data, erase my information from Microsoft since I keep getting error to leave organization first, but I have a personal account. Also when I try to check Azure or Entra ID to open support case I get error "Error - Error message: interaction_required: AADSTS5000225: This tenant has been blocked due to inactivity."

I am now stuck with an inactive tenant, unknow attached organization, and I cannot close my Microsoft account.

I followed all the steps provided online and in this community but there errors above are not going away.

I cannot even find the "organization" that I am being asked to leave by Microsoft.

I need support directly from Microsoft staff please.

I want to permanently close my account asap.

    Hello,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand how frustrating this is, especially since you are trying to permanently close your Microsoft account and keep running into errors that you cannot resolve on your own.

The error message you are seeing indicates that your tenant has been inactive for more than 200 days after the billing cycle, which triggered Microsoft's process to remove inactive tenants. At this stage, the OMS commerce system places a login block AADSTS5000225, twenty days after this block is applied, the tenant is permanently deleted. For reference: Tenant inaccessible due to inactivity

Once a tenant is blocked due to inactivity, Microsoft disables all self‑service actions related to that tenant. Because of this:

    • You cannot access Azure or Entra ID
    • You cannot see or “leave” the organization
    • The Leave organization step fails

Moreover, if you are using a personal Microsoft account (such as @outlook.com or @hotmail.com) and you want to remove the tenant association so your account can be permanently closed, this cannot be completed through Azure or Entra ID self‑service options.

In this scenario, the correct and recommended action is to contact Microsoft directly through their Official Support site so the appropriate team can remove the tenant linkage on the backend.

Please create a support request using the following link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactusNote: Please understand that as a forum moderator, my role is to provide general guidance and troubleshooting support. I don’t have access to internal systems or backend tools, and I appreciate your understanding of these limits.

I hope the information shared helps point you in the right direction. If you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out

The first response may not always resolve the issue right away, but with your help and more details, we can work toward a solution.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. I'm looking forward for your reply.

The error interaction_required: AADSTS5000225: This tenant has been blocked due to inactivity means the Microsoft Entra tenant linked to the account has been marked inactive and is blocked. In this state, portal access (Azure, Entra ID) and self-service actions such as leaving the organization or managing the tenant are not possible.

For tenants blocked due to inactivity:

    • The error message AADSTS5000225: This tenant has been blocked due to inactivity is expected when trying to access that tenant.
    • Administrators can request reactivation only within 20 days of the tenant entering the inactive state. After 20 days, the tenant is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

Because the tenant is blocked and self-service options are not working, resolution requires direct Microsoft support intervention, depending on which service is involved:

    1. For issues specifically about an inactive Microsoft Entra tenant (work/school scenario), the documented path is for a tenant administrator to contact Microsoft using the global support phone numbers listed in the tenant-inactivity guidance.
    2. For issues about closing a personal Microsoft account that is blocked by an organizational link, the recommended path is to open a support case under the correct consumer service (for example, Outlook or Microsoft account) rather than Azure. In similar cases, users who opened tickets under Azure were redirected and told to raise a new ticket selecting “Outlook” from the expanded list of services so the correct support team can handle the account/organization linkage and data removal.

    Given the scenario:

    • The tenant is blocked due to inactivity, which prevents using Azure/Entra to leave the organization or manage the tenant.
    • The account is a personal Microsoft account, and the problem is closing that account and removing data.
    • The required next step is to contact Microsoft support under the consumer account/email category (for example, Outlook/Microsoft account) and not Azure, so the appropriate team can:
      • Investigate the hidden or inaccessible organization link.
      • Handle removal of the personal account from that organization/tenant.
      • Proceed with account closure and data deletion according to Microsoft’s data protection policies.

If the tenant has been blocked for more than 20 days, it will be deleted automatically and is not recoverable; however, the consumer support team still needs to resolve the organizational linkage so the personal account can be closed.
