Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

If you see your Office Home 2024 license under your Microsoft account here https://account.microsoft.com/services, but you are still asked to buy an Office 365 subscription when launching Office applications, you can use the Office License Removal Tool to remove all previous Office licenses and then reactivate your product.

You can download and run the Office License Removal Tool from the official Microsoft website here.

Follow these steps to get Office 2024 (one‑time purchase) running on the iMac without a Microsoft 365 subscription.

    1. Confirm the correct account and license
    • Office 2024 is tied to the Microsoft account used when redeeming the product key.
    • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services and sign in with the same Microsoft account used to buy/redeem Office 2024.
    • Under Services & subscriptions, confirm that Office Home 2024 (or similar Office 2024 one‑time purchase) is listed.
      • If it is not listed, the key may have been redeemed under a different Microsoft account; sign out and check any other Microsoft accounts.
    1. Remove any Microsoft 365/old Office from the Mac Office 365/365 trial remnants can cause the apps to keep asking for a subscription.
    • Close Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook if they are open.
    • Open FinderApplications.
    • Locate any of these and move them to Trash:
      • “Microsoft 365” apps
      • Office trial apps
      • Old Office for Mac versions (2016/2019/2021/2024) that are still present.
    • Empty the Trash.
    1. Download the correct Office 2024 installer for Mac There are two supported ways in the context:

    A. From the Microsoft account (recommended for Home 2024)

    • While still on https://account.microsoft.com/services and signed in with the correct account:
      • Find Office Home 2024 under Services & subscriptions.
      • Select InstallInstall on this device.
      • This downloads the correct non‑subscription installer for Mac.

    B. From the Office 2024 for Mac installer package (perpetual license)

    • Use the direct Office 2024 for Mac installer package:
      • Download Office 2024 for Mac Installer from the link in the context.
    • When the download finishes, open FinderDownloads and double‑click the Microsoft Office installer.pkg (or the Office 2024 for Mac Installer package).
    1. Install Office 2024 on the Mac
    • Double‑click Microsoft Office installer.pkg.
      • If macOS says it can’t be opened because it’s from an unidentified developer, wait 10 seconds, drag the file to the Desktop, then hold Control and click the file and choose Open.
    • On the first screen, select Continue.
    • Review the license agreement → ContinueAgree.
    • Choose how to install Office → Continue.
    • Check disk space or change location if needed → Install.
    • Enter the Mac login password when prompted → Install Software.
    • When installation completes, select Close.
    1. Activate Office 2024 (avoid 365 subscription prompts)
    • Open Launchpad in the Dock.
    • Select Microsoft Word (or Excel/PowerPoint).
    • The What’s New window appears → select Get Started.
    • When prompted to sign in or activate:
      • Sign in with the same Microsoft account that shows Office Home 2024 under Services & subscriptions.
      • Do not start a Microsoft 365 trial; just sign in and let it activate the perpetual license.
    • After activation, in Word go to FileAccount and confirm it shows the Office 2024 product (not a Microsoft 365 subscription).
    1. If it still asks for Microsoft 365
    • Ensure all old Office apps were removed from Applications before installing.
    • If the apps still behave like 365, remove them again (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) via ApplicationsMove to Trash, then reinstall using the Office 2024 for Mac Installer link from the context and reactivate with the correct Microsoft account.
