Cannot turn on memory integrity

It's being blocked by outdated drivers by the following:

  • Huawei something (to do with my mobile), but I can't figure out where those relate to exactly as no application installed for this at present.
  • Creative Technologies, my webcam. The camera is fairly old so no longer supported by Creative thus no available updates for drivers (I contacted them to ask). If I can remove the drivers somehow will the camera still function? Nothing fancy just for things like Teams.
  • ftdibus.sys

Recommendations?

Right click your Start Button and open Device Manager.

At the top of Device Manager, select View - Show Hidden Devices.

At the top of Device Manager, select View - Devices By Drivers.

Are you then able to find those drivers in the list with a .inf file extension?

If so, right click and delete the drivers from there.

Then, restart (not shut down) your PC to apply the changes.

Memory integrity (HVCI) blocks drivers that are incompatible or on the vulnerable driver blocklist. To turn it on, all listed incompatible drivers must be updated or removed.

    Recommended approach:

    1. Try to update the drivers first
      • For each Huawei, FTDI (ftdibus.sys), and Creative webcam entry, check for newer drivers via:
        • Windows Update / Device Manager
        • The hardware manufacturer’s website
      • If a compatible driver exists and is installed, memory integrity will usually allow it to load.
    2. If no compatible driver exists
      • The guidance is to remove or stop using the device or software that depends on that driver if memory integrity is required.
      • For the old Creative webcam: if its only available driver is blocked, uninstalling that driver will likely stop the webcam from working. A newer, supported webcam would be needed to keep memory integrity on.
      • For Huawei/FTDI: if these are only used for occasional phone connection or a specific accessory, uninstalling the related software/device (and its driver) will allow memory integrity to be enabled, but the associated functionality may no longer work.
    3. If the driver is essential and cannot be updated
      • Memory integrity can be turned off to keep using the device:
        1. Open the Core isolation page in Windows Security (for Windows 11: Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Windows Security > Device Security, then under Core isolation, select Core isolation details).
        2. Turn Memory integrity Off and restart.
      • This reduces protection and, on Secured-core PCs, removes the Secured-core state, so it should only be done if the device/driver is critical and no compatible update exists.
    4. When a driver “can’t load on this device”
      • This message is expected when memory integrity or the vulnerable driver blocklist is blocking a driver.
      • The supported options are:
        • Update the driver (preferred).
        • Remove the device/app that uses the incompatible driver.
        • Or, if necessary, turn off memory integrity as described above.

In summary, to enable memory integrity, all listed Huawei, FTDI, and Creative drivers must either be updated to compatible versions or removed, understanding that removing them will typically disable the associated hardware or features.
