Additional Microsoft Defender tools and services that provide security across various platforms and environments
Hello, If your Microsoft account was hacked and the attacker changed your email address and removed your phone number, it becomes impossible to immediately restore your own information — even if your password was not changed. When security info is modified, Microsoft places the account under a protection period. During this time, no one can change the security details.
Here’s what you can do:
1. Use the official “Recover your account” form
Go to: https://account.live.com/acsr Enter your original email address and follow the steps to prove the account belongs to you. You may need to provide:
recent email subjects you sent,
names of contacts,
details about how you used the account.
2. Wait for the security period to end
When a hacker changes the security information, Microsoft locks those settings for up to 30 days. During this period, neither you nor the hacker can update the email or phone number. Once the waiting period ends, Microsoft will notify you so you can regain full control.
3. If the recovery form fails
If the form doesn’t accept the information you provided, you can try again after 24 hours with more details. Microsoft support cannot manually restore an account without successful identity verification.
