A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
Dear @Stuart Petch,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.
I totally understand the inconvenience this issue has caused and how disruptive it can be when project files are not syncing as expected.
To clarify, OneDrive does not automatically sync SharePoint project libraries unless they are explicitly connected. Microsoft currently supports two methods for this:
Method 1: Add shortcut to OneDrive (recommended). For more information, please follow the steps in this article: Add shortcuts to libraries and folders to their OneDrive.
Method 2: Using the Sync button directly from the SharePoint document library. For more information, please follow the steps in this article: Use the Sync button in the document library.
For reference: Sync in SharePoint and OneDrive and Sync SharePoint and Teams files with your computer
If the library was added previously using Sync, we recommend removing it and re‑adding it using “Add shortcut to OneDrive”, as this method is more stable and works consistently across devices.
In the meantime, please check the following on your device:
- Click the OneDrive cloud icon in the system tray and confirm whether it shows “Your files are synced”, paused, or an error.
- Ensure you have edit permissions on the SharePoint project library (read‑only access will prevent syncing).
- Confirm there are no sync error messages listed under “View sync problems.”
If everything appears correct but the issue persists, here are some steps I recommend you try:
Step 1: Unlink and re-link OneDrive
Unlinking and re-linking your computer to OneDrive can help solve some sync problems. You can also use these same steps to move your OneDrive to a new location, such as an external disk drive.
For more information, please follow the steps in this article: Unlink and re-link OneDrive
Step 2: Reset OneDrive
A OneDrive client reset on your device may be required. This is a safe step and does not delete cloud data, but it does rebuild the local sync connection. For more information, please follow the steps in this article: Reset OneDrive

To help us narrow down the root cause, could you please confirm the details below?
- What message do you currently see when you click the OneDrive cloud icon in the system tray/menu bar?
- How was the SharePoint library connected? Was the project library added using Add shortcut to OneDrive, or The Sync button in SharePoint?
- Does this issue affect only this specific project site, or all SharePoint sites you try to sync?
- Are other team members able to sync the same library successfully?
- Do you have Edit access (not read‑only) to the SharePoint project library?
- Do you see any files or folders marked with a red “X” or warning icon?
- Approximately how large is the library?
- Besides the affected business account, are you also using or have you added a personal Microsoft account in the OneDrive app on this device?
Note: Please understand that as a forum moderator, my role is to provide general guidance and troubleshooting support. I don’t have access to internal systems or backend tools, and I appreciate your understanding of these limits.
I hope the information shared helps point you in the right direction. Please try the steps above and let me know if they work. If not, we can continue working together to narrow this down.
The first response may not always resolve the issue right away, but with your help and more details, we can work toward a solution.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. I'm looking forward for your reply.
