    Dear @Daniel Ehrlich,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on your description, just to confirm, are you trying to prevent a user in your company from using Microsoft Teams only, while keeping the account active and allowing access to other Microsoft 365 services as usual?

and what type of subscription are you using?

Please understand that the more information you provide, the more effectively I can support.

In the meantime, If I am correct, you can try the suggestion below:

Sign in to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center https://admin.microsoft.com (You must be a Global Admin or License Admin.)

Go to Users > Active users

Select the user you want to modify

Open the Licenses and apps tab

Find the assigned license (for example: Microsoft 365 E3, E5, Business Standard)

Click Apps (or expand the license details)

    Turn off “Microsoft Teams”

    Click Save changes

If information above does not meet your expectations, please leave the comment below so I can support you more effectively.

Note: Please understand that as forum moderator, my primary goal is to provide helpful guidance and support through general troubleshooting steps. While I don’t have access to internal systems or test devices required to resolve backend issues, I truly appreciate your understanding of these limitations. I genuinely hope the information I share helps guide you in the right direction, and I'm always here to assist as much as I can within my scope.

    Looking forward to your update.
