Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
To move to a Microsoft 365 Family plan, the existing personal subscription must be canceled or allowed to expire, then the husband can invite to the family subscription.
Follow these steps to cancel the current Microsoft 365 (Office 365) subscription purchased directly from Microsoft:
- Go to the Services & subscriptions page for Microsoft 365:
- Sign in with the same Microsoft account that was used to buy the subscription.
- Under Services & subscriptions, locate the Microsoft 365 subscription.
- Select Manage.
- If Turn on recurring billing is shown instead of Manage, the subscription is already set to expire on the date shown and will not renew. In that case, no further action is needed; it can be used until it expires, then the husband can add to the family plan.
- On the next page, select Cancel or Cancel subscription (it may appear as Upgrade or Cancel).
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete cancellation.
If the option to cancel or turn off recurring billing does not appear, check these points:
- Confirm the correct Microsoft account is being used to sign in (the one that purchased Microsoft 365).
- If the subscription was purchased from a third-party retailer (for example, a store, Amazon, Google Play, or Apple App Store), cancellation must be done with that retailer directly.
- If there is an overdue balance on the subscription, pay the outstanding amount first; cancellation is blocked while money is owed.
After cancellation or once the subscription is set to expire, the husband can share the Microsoft 365 Family subscription by sending a sharing invitation to this Microsoft account. Once the invitation is accepted, the family plan benefits apply to this account.
Be aware that canceling a Microsoft 365 Basic, Personal, Family, or Premium subscription reduces cloud storage back to the free quota (5 GB OneDrive + Outlook.com attachment storage, and 15 GB Outlook.com mailbox storage). If more than the free allowance is in use, new files cannot be uploaded or synced to OneDrive and Outlook.com email sending/receiving will stop until storage is reduced.
