Developing and testing features or extensions for Microsoft Edge
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
I am using Microsoft Edge on my Linux machine. I mostly use Edge cause of cloud sync, now that I did found an alternative I see no reason to keep using it.
Microsoft Edge has been my favorite browser so far, although the after installation setup being pretty annoying with all the default settings and ads microsoft runs on it - but it was tolerable.
But one thing that I didn't manage to do is to hide the copilot button. that seems to be a minor thing, but lately the updates are keeping times more buggier; and then I saw some questions in the community section and it has something to do with how copilot is integrated in edge - some copilot features are disabled when installing it via ``yay` package manager so the issues pile up because of it.
I tried to get rid of it, the "Hide Copilot" button never worked...
Now I am using Zen Browser (Firefox based), and I am not willing to go back!
Microsoft products are getting sloppier each update, and that's unfortunate...
Developing and testing features or extensions for Microsoft Edge
On Linux, there is no supported way in the provided context to permanently remove or hide the Copilot button in Microsoft Edge. The context only covers how Copilot works in Edge, privacy and data handling, and some known issues, but does not document any policy, flag, or setting that reliably disables or hides the Copilot UI on Linux builds.
The context does state that Copilot is built into Microsoft Edge as “your personal AI companion,” and that Edge-backed apps and widgets depend on Edge being installed and updated, but it does not provide any configuration guidance for removing Copilot from the browser chrome itself. It also notes that uninstalling Edge will stop Edge-backed apps and PWAs (including Copilot as a PWA) from working, but that is specific to Windows and does not describe Linux behavior.
Because no documented method is provided in the context to hide or disable the Copilot button in Edge on Linux, switching to another browser, as already done, is consistent with the available information.
