Compatibility between outlook and gmail is always a headache. Looks like this is just on purpose.

Keep getting the error below when opening outlook. The gmail app shows I have new emails, but outlook isn't showing them. Shows no new emails since yesterday.

The error and lack of new Gmail messages in classic Outlook indicate a sync/authentication problem between Outlook and Gmail.
Try these steps in order:
microsoft.com or bing.com load correctly.If the Retry flow is available only on newer builds, make sure Outlook is updated to a build that includes the fix, then use the Retry option again.
These steps address the known causes where Gmail shows new mail but classic Outlook stops updating and reports send errors.
