    Dear @herik raharjo,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A.

Thank you for your question. I understand that you’ve purchased a Microsoft 365 Basic (Monthly – OneDrive) subscription and are unsure why it can’t be “activated” or used with Microsoft 365 Education/Office on Windows.

To clarify, Microsoft 365 Basic is a personal subscription that provides additional OneDrive storage and access to Office web apps only. It does not include a license for the desktop Office apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint on Windows or Mac), and it doesn’t integrate with Microsoft 365 Education (school) accounts.

Because of this, there is no activation step inside the Office desktop apps for Microsoft 365 Basic. If you sign in to Word/Excel on Windows with a Microsoft 365 Basic account, Office will correctly show that no desktop license is available. This is expected behavior and not an error.

If you’re using a school or education account, desktop Office apps and OneDrive storage are provided only through your institution’s Microsoft 365 Education license, which is managed by the school. Personal subscriptions like Microsoft 365 Basic can’t be combined with or applied to education tenants. This is a licensing scope difference rather than a technical or activation issue.

Depending on your goal, if you want more OneDrive storage for a personal account: Sign in at account.microsoft.com/services with the same account used to purchase Microsoft 365 Basic and confirm the subscription is active. The extra storage will apply there.

If you need Office desktop apps. Microsoft 365 Basic won’t activate them. You’ll need: Microsoft 365 Personal / Family, or an active Microsoft 365 Education license provided by your school.

If you’re using a school account: Please check with your school’s IT administrator to confirm whether your education account includes desktop Office apps and OneDrive storage. Personal subscriptions cannot be attached to education tenants.

If my response has helped you better understand the situation and guided you toward a possible next step, please consider marking it as the “Accepted answer.” Doing so will pin the thread to the top, making it easier for others to discover your question and see the pioneering effort you have made in raising this issue. Microsoft 365 Basic is a storage and web‑only subscription and does not include the right to activate or use the desktop Office apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) on Windows or Mac.

For a Microsoft 365 Basic Subscription – Monthly (Microsoft OneDrive):

    1. Activation of OneDrive and web apps
    2. Why desktop Office apps cannot be activated
      • Microsoft 365 Basic only provides 100 GB of OneDrive storage and access to the free Office web apps.
      • It does not include licenses for installing or activating the full desktop Office apps. When trying to sign in to activate Word/Excel/PowerPoint on the desktop with a Microsoft 365 Basic subscription, the account will show as having no Office license.
    3. How to get desktop Office apps
      • To install and activate Office desktop apps on Windows or Mac, a subscription such as Microsoft 365 Personal or Microsoft 365 Family is required, or a one‑time purchase like Office Home & Student 2021.

If desktop Office is required, upgrade the subscription to Microsoft 365 Personal or Family, then install and activate Office using the account that owns that subscription.
