MS Teams Townhall: how to answer ignored questions?

Hi,

I previously used live events and will now switch to townhalls. Concerning the Q&A, I need to be able to decide for each question if it can be published or not, so I will be using 'moderate questions' (in Dutch in my case). I noticed when you dismiss a question, (a) the participant cannot see your answer, it is hidden and (b) the participant can no longer reply to the question. In live events, this was possible. Is there any way to also make this possible in townhalls?

I am referring to (in Dutch): 'answers are disabled for dismissed questions' (or something like that in English). Thank you.

    Hi @Kim Corremans

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

After reviewing your description, I went ahead and set up a test Town Hall on my end to replicate the exact behavior you mentioned. And yes, it works exactly as you described. When an attendee submits a question, you can reply to them, and under normal circumstances they can continue the conversation with you. However, the moment you select Dismiss, the entire thread becomes completely inaccessible on both sides. Neither you nor the attendee can view what was written or interact with it further.   User's imageUser's imageUser's imageUser's image

I also took a look at the broader context around this. Since Microsoft officially retired Teams Live Events for commercial customers on September 30, 2024, Town Halls have become the replacement, offering improvements in areas like recording quality and overall production features.

These enhancements are definitely valuable, but several users have noted that the Q&A experience feels a bit more limited than what they were used to in Live Events, and the behavior you’re seeing is one of those limitations. It’s not an error, just part of how Town Halls are currently designed.

As a forum moderator, I can confirm the limitation with you, but I unfortunately can’t change product behavior. What I can encourage, and what tends to be genuinely impactful is posting this as feedback in the Microsoft Teams Community feedback portal.

This is the official portal where your input goes directly to the product team and can be considered for future improvements. Once you've posted your feedback, feel free to share the link in the comments here. I’ll be happy to vote for it to help bring more visibility

And if you feel this answer has helped clarify the key points for you, including some areas where Town Hall may still have room to grow, I’d really appreciate it if you could consider clicking "Accept Answer" for this post. It gently brings the most helpful information to the top, so anyone else facing the same situation can find the guidance they need more quickly. It also gives others a chance to add their support to your feedback or share their own experience in a way that reinforces your voice.

Your feedback truly matters, and when our community comes together around shared experiences, it becomes a positive and meaningful driver for future improvements.

Thank you so much for your understanding and kindness.
