Restore Onenote backup from alumni OneDrive

I have just graduated from university and I am trying to download the file from temporary OneDrive access for alumni. However, I carelessly deleted the Onenote backup file which I stored in Onedrive. I cannot restore it from the recycle bin because of the storage limit (no more OneDrive storage after graduation). I cannot open my Onenote file either. Is there any way to fix it and get it back? :((

Thank you!!

    Hi @LEUNG, Tsz Ying,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I would like to provide you with the following information:

Since you deleted the file while your OneDrive storage was already full, the file cannot be restored from OneDrive at this time.

As this is an Education account, the data associated with this account is managed and configured by the school’s administrators (typically the IT department).

In this case, you may contact your school’s IT department to request temporary reactivation of the account in order to restore the OneNote backup file, or ask the IT team to check whether the data can be directly recovered from the Admin Console.

If the IT department is unable to restore the data, you can request that they open a support ticket with Microsoft Technical Support. This team has more advanced tools to further investigate whether file recovery is possible.

You may also provide the IT department with the documentation below on how to open a support ticket with Microsoft Technical Support:

Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn

I hope this information is helpful.

If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to share them in the comments on this post so I can continue to support you.

I look forward to continuing the conversation.
