Hi Barbara Nakito,
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A.
The message “Check your camera privacy switch and remove anything blocking the camera lens” usually appears when Teams can’t access a usable camera feed. This can be caused by a physical camera shutter, Windows privacy/driver settings, or Teams app configuration.
Step 1: Close Teams and open the Windows Camera app.
- If Camera app fails too > it’s likely Windows/driver/privacy switch.
- If Camera app works > it’s more likely Teams app settings/cache.
Step 2 (Windows checks):
- Make sure the laptop’s camera shutter or privacy switch is open/on.
- Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Camera and turn ON:
- Camera access
- Let apps access your camera
- Let desktop apps access your camera (required for Teams desktop)
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Cameras and confirm the camera is not disabled.
- Close any other apps that may be using the camera (Zoom, browser tabs, etc.), then try again.
Step 3 (Teams checks):
- In Teams, go to Settings > Devices and select the correct camera.
- Clear the Teams cache and restart Teams. You can follow official guide here: Clear the Teams client cache
Note: If this is a school‑managed device, camera access may be restricted by policy. In that case, your school’s IT administrator would need to allow camera usage.
Please let me know if this proves useful to you, or if you would like further assistance.
I'm looking forward to your reply.
