Tasks View

I started a To-Do list in Tasks this morning and I was in list view. I had other problems in Teams, so I restarted it and now my tasks are only show board view, not grid, and there is no option to change it. Further, I have an old list (which does show me all the viewing options by the way) that I want to discard but there is no delete button, only hide, and it does not hide it.

Please assist!

    Dear @Michelle Gasparovic,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft 365 Q&A Forum. I understand you're having a frustrating experience with the Tasks app in Teams after restarting it, specifically with the view options and managing an old list. Let's work through this step-by-step.

To help me narrow down the cause, could you please provide the following details?

    • Are you using the desktop app or the web version of Teams?
    • Have you tried accessing the Tasks app from a different device?
    • Could you confirm if other users in your organization face the same issues?

In the meantime, please try the following official troubleshooting steps which usually resolve issues with basic issues:

Regarding the View Issue (Board vs. Grid)

Based on your description, you were in List View this morning, and after restarting Teams, you're now stuck in Board View with no option to change it. This is a known issue that many users are currently experiencing.  Microsoft has recently been rolling out updates to the Tasks app (which integrates Microsoft To-Do and Planner), and these changes are affecting view persistence. According to recent Microsoft Q&A discussions via link Default View for Tasks in Teams changed to Grid - Microsoft Q&A, the default view for Planner tasks in Teams has changed, and Teams is no longer remembering the last view selected.

What's happening is that the view toggle between Board and Grid view is sometimes disappearing from the interface, particularly in the "My Tasks" aggregation view. A Microsoft moderator has confirmed this behavior and explained that these changes are being deployed problematically across the Planner app.

    Step you can try

Step 1: Check for Teams Updates First:

    • Click on your profile picture in the top right corner of Teams
    • Select "Check for updates" and allow any pending updates to install
    • Restart Teams completely after updates are applied

For further details, you may refer to: Update Microsoft Teams - Microsoft Support

    Step 2: Clear Teams cache

Since you restarted Teams due to other problems, a corrupted cache could be causing the UI elements to load incorrectly:

    • Close Microsoft Teams completely (right-click the Teams icon in the taskbar and select "Quit")
    • Press Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog box
    • Type %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams and press Enter
    • Delete all files and folders inside this directory
    • Restart Teams and sign in again

For further details, you may refer to: Clear the Teams client cache - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn

Step 3: Try Accessing Tasks Through a Different Method:

    • Navigate into an individual task list (your "old list" as you mentioned) and check if the view options appear there.
    • If you need immediate access to Grid view, try using the web version of Teams temporarily.

Step 4: Provide Feedback to Microsoft:  Since this is a known deployment issue, I sincerely suggest reporting this to the Planner team using the in-app feedback tool:

    • Click the feedback button in the top right corner of Planner
    • Select "I don't like something" to report the issue
    • This helps Microsoft prioritize fixes based on customer feedback

    Regarding Deleting the Old List

You mentioned wanting to discard an old list but only see a "Hide" option (not Delete), and that the Hide function isn't working.  The behavior you're experiencing depends on where the list originated. The Tasks app in Teams pulls data from two different sources:

    • Microsoft To-Do (personal lists with light blue icons)
    • Planner (shared plans connected to Microsoft 365 Groups with colorful icons)

If you're unable to see a delete option and only see "hide," it may be due to permissions or issues related to the list itself. Hiding a list should typically remove it from the main view; if it isn't, there might be a syncing issue.

You can try using the mobile app if available, as sometimes the functionality on mobile can differ. If hiding still doesn't work, follow the same steps as above: log out, clear cache, and log back in to see if improvements are made.

I hope these solutions help resolve your issues. Please try the steps above and let me know what works for you. If problems persist, don't hesitate to reply with the additional information, and I'll be happy to assist further.

It seems you're experiencing issues with the view settings in Microsoft Teams Tasks. Unfortunately, the Context provided does not contain specific information about changing views in the Tasks application or managing task lists in Teams. However, here are some general troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Check View Options: Sometimes, the view options may not be visible due to a glitch. Try refreshing the Teams application or logging out and back in to see if the options reappear.
    2. Clear Cache: Clearing the Teams cache can help resolve display issues. You can do this by closing Teams, navigating to %appdata%/Microsoft/Teams, and deleting the contents of the Cache folder.
    3. Update Teams: Ensure that your Microsoft Teams application is updated to the latest version, as updates often fix bugs and improve functionality.
    4. Contact Support: If the problem persists, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for assistance with your specific issue regarding the Tasks view and the inability to delete or hide lists.

For the old list that you want to discard, if the hide option is not functioning as expected, it might be necessary to check if you have the correct permissions or if there are any settings preventing the deletion of that list.
