Receive an error when on the Chat tab in the Teams app "We ran into a problem getting your chats and channels. I have logged out and back in. I have uninstalled and re-installed the app, restarted my computer, everything. All the other tabs in the app work. Browser works fine. Chat in the app is the only one with the error.

    Hi @Kaylee Arnold,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Forum.
Thank for the detailed description. Since your Teams works in the browser and other tabs work in the desktop app, but only the Chat tab fails, this often points to a local client/cache issue or a desktop-specific connection path rather than a general account outage.

Usually, when you're running into this issue, you can try the following steps:

    1/ Clear Teams cache

You can do so by following this guide: Clear the Teams client cache - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn

Please ensure to delete all files from the Cache, blob_storage, databases, GPUCache, IndexedDB, Local Storage, and tmp folders.

    2/ Repair Microsoft Teams

    • Go to Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps
    • Find Microsoft Teams, select the ⋯ menu > Advanced options
    • Choose Repair and follow any prompts
    • Restart Teams and verify whether chats are working

    3/ Reset Internet options

Internet Options affect how Windows and apps connect to the internet.

    • Open Internet Options (search for “Internet Options” from the taskbar)
    • Go to Advanced > Restore advanced settings > Apply > OK
    • Relaunch Teams and check if the error persists

    4/ Contact Microsoft Support:

If the issue persists, please collecting Teams diagnostic logs via: Ctrl + Alt + Shift + 1.

For reference: Collect log files for monitoring and troubleshooting in Teams - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn

The most effective next step is reaching out to your IT admin and ask them to use their admin credentials to submit a support request through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center along with the logs you just collected.

Microsoft also provides customer service phone numbers based on your region. You can find the appropriate contact number here: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support

This route ensures that a Microsoft support engineer can initiate a remote session to investigate backend configurations, run advanced diagnostic tools, and, if necessary, escalate the case to specialized teams with access to internal systems and logs. These backend resources are essential for resolving issues that go beyond what’s visible in the user interface.

As community moderators, we’re here to guide you, but due to privacy and security limitations, we don’t have access to the backend tools required for a full resolution. For this reason, contacting Microsoft Support via the Admin Center is the most secure and efficient way forward.

I hope this helps you resolve the issue quickly. I’m glad to assist and truly hope the information provided has been useful. Please feel free to reach out anytime if you need further assistance.

when chat alone won’t load, it’s usually the local db stuck half‑broken. pls try to close Teams fully and clear %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams\ — esp IndexedDB that’s the one fix that’s actually worked for me.
