I am logged into my MS365 account but Teams is not synced with my outlook the contacts are not the same in both even though I have synced multiple times (it is like it is connected to a very old version of my contacts as what I see online vs in the app is different for the contacts) but more importantly I can't get the Teams calendar and Outlook calendar to sync. I can't schedule Teams meetings in Outlook.

    Hi @Cindy Henderson,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A Forum.

Thank you for the detailed explanation. I understand how confusing this can be, especially when Outlook and Teams don’t appear to match.

When you’re using the new Outlook, there isn’t a manual “sync” between Outlook and Teams. Microsoft Teams doesn’t have its own calendar; it reads directly from your Outlook (Exchange) calendar. When Teams meetings can’t be scheduled from Outlook or calendars look different, it’s usually related to account sign‑in or the Teams integration not being active.

You can try the steps below to see if it works in your situation:

    1. Confirm the same work account is used in both apps Make sure the email address shown in New Outlook and Microsoft Teams is exactly the same (work or school account). If one app is signed in with a different or personal Microsoft account, Teams meetings won’t work correctly. Restart Teams and Outlook in the correct order
      • Close New Outlook
      • Fully quit Microsoft Teams (right‑click the Teams icon in the system tray and select Quit)
      • Open Teams first and wait until it finishes loading
      • Then open New Outlook

This allows Teams to re‑register the Teams meeting integration that New Outlook relies on.

    1. Create a Teams meeting in New Outlook In New Outlook, go to Calendar > New event > Event. Then create an event and turn on Teams meeting toggle.

    2. Check Outlook on the web as a reference Please also sign in at: https://outlook.office.com/calendar Teams always reflects what’s shown there. If Outlook on the web matches Teams, the desktop app is just using cached data.

However, regarding contacts, it’s expected that Teams and Outlook contacts don’t fully match. Teams primarily shows your organization’s directory rather than personal contacts stored in Outlook.

If the issue continues after these steps, it may help to temporarily switch back to Classic Outlook or contact your organization’s IT administrator to review your account configuration.

I hope this information is helpful.  Should you have any further questions or need additional assistance for you and your IT admin, please feel free to reach out.
