My latop suddenly asked for the bitlocker recovery key, accepted it and started the restart. But has been stuck as the windows logo on a black screen for 90mins now and not changing. I would like to get it off this screen to actually be able to log in and use my laptop.

First, press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds. Keep holding it until the screen goes completely dark. Once it's off, just wait around 30 seconds, then press the power button once and let it start up like normal.

If that doesn't work and it's still acting weird, here's the backup plan:

Turn it off completely, then hold down the volume up button. While you're still holding volume up, press the power button. When you see the logo pop up, let go of the power button but keep holding that volume up button. Don't let go until you see the recovery or UEFI screen show up.

Once you're in the recovery screen:

Look for "Troubleshoot" and select that. Then go to "Advanced options" and click on "Startup Repair." It'll ask you to pick your Windows account, so choose yours. If it prompts you for that BitLocker key again, just enter it one more time.

This should fix a bunch of common issues like corrupted boot files, Windows updates that went sideways, or when your Surface's firmware gets stuck.

If your laptop is stuck on the Windows logo after entering the BitLocker recovery key, it may indicate an issue with the boot process or the BitLocker encryption. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    1. Force Restart: Hold down the power button until the laptop turns off. Wait a few seconds, then turn it back on. This may allow the system to boot normally.
    2. Check for Hardware Issues: Ensure that all hardware components are properly connected. If you have recently changed any hardware, revert those changes to see if it resolves the issue.
    3. Boot into Safe Mode: If the laptop continues to be stuck, try booting into Safe Mode. You can do this by interrupting the boot process three times (turning off the laptop during startup) to trigger Windows Recovery Environment, then navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart, and select Safe Mode.
    4. Use Recovery Tools: If you have installation media or a recovery drive, you can use it to access recovery options and repair your installation of Windows.
    5. BitLocker Repair Tool: If the drive is encrypted and you suspect corruption, you may need to use the BitLocker Repair Tool (repair-bde.exe) to recover data from the drive. This tool can help decrypt the volume at the block level if other recovery methods fail.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to consider seeking professional assistance or contacting Microsoft support for further help.
