    Dear Peter Lee

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

To better assist you, could you please provide a bit more detail about the issue? When you click on the Excel or Word icon, what exactly happens? For example, does the icon bounce on the Dock and then close, or do you see an error message such as “Application not responding”?

It would also be very helpful if you could share the macOS version and the Office version you are currently using. This allows us to verify whether your macOS and Office versions are compatible. You can review supported macOS versions for Microsoft 365 here: Upgrade macOS to continue receiving Microsoft 365 and Office for Mac updates

If the versions are not compatible, you can download an appropriate Office build from the release history page: Update history for Office for Mac - Office release notes

Additionally, please check your license assignment in the Harmony portal to confirm that it includes Office desktop applications. For example, an Education A1 license only supports Office on the web, so desktop apps cannot be activated. In that case, please try using Office Web.

You may also try opening Excel manually by going to Finder > Applications > Microsoft Excel, then right‑clicking Excel and selecting Open. If prompted, sign in using your school account.

If the issue persists, please try cleaning cached account and license information:

    1. Sign out of all Office apps Open Finder > Go > Go to Folder Navigate to ~/Library/Group Containers/
    2. Locate and delete (or temporarily move) this folder: UBF8T346G9.Office
    3. Restart your Mac, then reopen an Office app and sign in with an account that has the appropriate license.

If the problem continues, please provide the information above (macOS version, Office version, and observed behavior), and I’ll be happy to assist further. Looking forward to your update.
