I deleted my SurfacePro off my account by accident, can I get it back so I can get into it?

I have a Microsoft surface pro and when my ex left he took it and I locked it...I now have it back however, I proceeded to accidently delete it out of my Microsoft profile (I was trying to remove my old work one) and I am wondering if (and how) I can get back into it.

    Dear Loni LaTrace

Thank you for your question and for sharing the details into Microsoft Q&A Forum.

I understand how frustrating this situation can be, especially after regaining your device and accidentally removing it from your Microsoft account. Let me clarify what happened and guide you through the next steps.

When a Surface device is deleted from your Microsoft account profile, it only removes the device from the online management list (such as Find My Device, warranty info, and BitLocker recovery keys). It does not lock or erase the device itself.

    1. Try these steps to get back in
    • Connect the Surface to the internet (Wi‑Fi or Ethernet).
    • Sign in on the Surface
      • Use the same Microsoft account that was previously used on this device (the one you used to lock it).
      • If you see a message like “This device is locked by your Microsoft account”, enter that account’s password (or Windows Hello/PIN if prompted).
      • If you originally used a local account, try that local password first; you can link a Microsoft account afterward.
    • Re‑add the device to your Microsoft profile
      • Go to Settings > Accounts > Your info. If available, choose “Sign in with a Microsoft account instead” and sign in.
      • Turn on Settings > Privacy & security > Find my device.
      • After a few minutes, check https://account.microsoft.com/devices to see if the Surface appears again.
    1. If it still shows as locked from “Find my device”
    • Ensure the Surface is online.
    • Sign in with the same Microsoft account that was used to lock it.
    • If you’re unsure which account that is, you can try account recovery to look up your Microsoft account username: https://account.live.com/username/recover

I hope these steps help you quickly regain access to your Surface Pro, re-link it to your Microsoft account, and keep your data intact. Wishing you a smooth, hassle‑free sign‑in experience.
