Surface (2014) won't let me log in

I cannot seem to log into my 2014 Surface. I last used it in 2018 or 2019. I forgot my password but I reset my Microsoft password and it is saying it is still wrong. I reset it many times and even added the Surface device in my account. I also tried using the recovery key to get in but it won't work and just restarts to the main page again.

I don't want to lose my data on the surface so if anyone can help me get into it before I reset the whole thing that would be great!

thanks,

If you are unable to log into your Surface device and have already reset your Microsoft password without success, there are a few steps you can try:

    1. Check for Correct Account: Ensure that you are using the correct Microsoft account associated with your Surface device. Sometimes, users may have multiple accounts and may inadvertently attempt to log in with the wrong one.
    2. Use Recovery Options: If you have set up recovery options, try using them to regain access to your account. This might involve answering security questions or using an alternate email or phone number to receive a verification code.
    3. Device Recovery: If you have exhausted all login options and still cannot access your device, you may need to consider using a recovery image. You can download a recovery image from Microsoft Support if your device is not listed as a supported device in the Recovery tool. This will restore your Surface to its original state, but it may result in data loss.
    4. Contact Support: If you are concerned about losing data, it may be best to contact Microsoft Support directly for assistance. They can provide guidance specific to your situation and help you explore options to recover your data.
    5. Backup Data: If you manage to log in or access your device, consider backing up your data immediately to prevent any future loss.

Unfortunately, if none of these options work, resetting the device may be the only solution left, which would lead to data loss if not backed up beforehand.
