Is there ANY way to get the option to open files in Desktop App back in the newest version of Teams? I just got a new computer, and having to click extra mouse clicks is absurd when I have the highest level license available for a small business.

    Hi @David Mickholtzick,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Thank you for contacting us. I would like to provide you with the following information:

According to your description, you are currently using the highest-tier license for small businesses – Microsoft 365 Business Premium.

However, based on Microsoft’s documentation, the Open file in desktop app feature requires licenses with the Product ID: O365ProPlusRetail.

You can refer to the documentation at the following link: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/microsoftteams/files/desktop-app-option-missingUser's image

In your case, the Business Premium plan has the Product ID: O365BusinessRetail. You can also find more detailed information in the following document:https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/microsoft-365-apps/office-suite-issues/product-ids-supported-office-deployment-click-to-run

If the option to open files in the Desktop App is missing in Microsoft Teams, it could be due to one of the following prerequisites not being met:

    1. Ensure you are using the Teams desktop app for Windows or Mac.
    2. Make sure you have the corresponding Office desktop apps installed (Microsoft Office 2016 or a later version).
    3. Verify that you have an Office 365 E3 or E5 license that includes the O365ProPlusRetail product ID.

To check your license, you can run specific PowerShell commands on your device to confirm that the O365ProPlusRetail is included in your license. If any of these conditions are not met, the option to open files in the Desktop App will not appear.

If you have confirmed that all prerequisites are satisfied and the option is still missing, consider reinstalling the Teams app or checking for updates to ensure you have the latest version.
