Hi @SDF
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.
Thank you for reaching out and sharing the details of what you’re experiencing with Microsoft Teams. I understand how inconvenient it can be when the app reopens after you’ve signed out, especially at the end of your workday.
This behavior is not controlled by the Auto-start Teams setting alone. Teams often relaunch after sign-out because of background settings or the machine-wide installer.
Here are a few steps you can try:
1/ Turn off background behavior in Teams
- Open Teams → Click on three dot menu → Settings → General
- Uncheck “On close, keep the application background”

2/ Disable background apps in Windows
- Go to Settings (Press Windows + I) → Apps → Installed Apps
- Choose Microsoft Teams → Go to Advanced options
- Under Background apps permissions, set to Never.

3/ Clear Teams cache
Please refer to this article for step-by-step instructions with suitable OS: Clear the Teams client cache
4/ Create a new local user profile
- Creating a new Windows user profile helps determine if the issue is profile-specific.
- Corrupted user settings or cached data can cause Teams to crash repeatedly. If Teams works under a new profile, the root cause is likely tied to the original profile rather than the system or Teams installation.
- To learn more, please visit: Manage User Accounts in Windows - Microsoft Support

- Sign in with your new local account
- Open Teams, sign in your Teams account and check if the issue persists
