How do I clear up space/delete stuff to make room in my sone drive torage

In addition to basic file deletion and emptying the Recycle Bin, here are other methods to manage and free up space in your OneDrive storage:

1. Manage Outlook.com Email Attachments

Email attachments in Outlook.com count against your OneDrive cloud storage limit, not your separate email storage limit. 

• Review Large Emails: Sign in to your account on Outlook.com, click the Settings gear icon, and go to Account > Storage > Email storage.
• Sort by Size: In the Email storage section, you can see how much space each folder is using and sort messages by size to easily find and delete emails with large attachments you no longer need.
• Empty Junk and Deleted Items: After deleting large emails from your inbox or sent items, ensure you also empty the Deleted Items and Junk Email folders to permanently free up the space.

2. Move or Archive Files to a Different Location

For files you want to keep but don't need in OneDrive, you can move them to an external storage device (like a USB drive or external hard drive) or a different, non-synced folder on your computer. 

• Move out of the OneDrive Folder: Open File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac), navigate to your OneDrive folder, and then drag or cut and paste files to a location outside that folder.

3. Use OneDrive Files On-Demand 

This feature helps manage space on your local computer's drive without affecting your total cloud storage limit. It lets you see all your cloud files in File Explorer, but only downloads them when you need to open them, saving local hard drive space. 

• Turn on Files On-Demand: Right-click the OneDrive cloud icon in your taskbar/menu bar, go to Settings, and ensure "Save space and download files as you use them" (or similar wording for Mac) is enabled.
• "Free up space" Manually: In File Explorer, you can right-click specific files or folders that are locally available (indicated by a green checkmark) and select Free up space. This makes them "online-only" (indicated by a blue cloud icon), removing the local copy.

4. Adjust Which Folders Sync

If you have large folders that you only need access to online and not on your computer, you can stop them from syncing to your PC.

• Choose Folders: Right-click the OneDrive icon in your taskbar/menu bar, go to Settings > Account > Choose folders.
• Uncheck Unnecessary Folders: Uncheck the boxes for any large folders you don't need immediate, offline access to on your computer, and click OK. This removes them from your computer's File Explorer view but keeps them safely stored in the cloud.
