I have not been on it in a while and definitely have not deleted. Does anyone know at all how to retrieve or fix this please. I may have an interview coming up and all my notes were on there. Dear @Sharon Harper,

Good day. Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum!

I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you’ve experienced. I truly appreciate your patience during this time and thank you for bearing with us.

To understand the situation better and provide you with the most suitable support, could you confirm the following information:

    • Which version of Office are you using (e.g., Office 365, Office 2021)?
    • Could you clarify whether your account is a personal account or a work/school account provided by your organization or institution?
    • If you are using a work or school account, where is the OneNote file stored on your OneDrive or in SharePoint?
    • Have you tried checking OneNote on the web to see if the issue still occurs?
    • Did you create a note for your assignment and later couldn’t find that specific note, or are you unable to access your OneNote account entirely?
    • What specific error are you experiencing in OneNote? Please take a screenshot of the error message and share it with me so I can better assist you.

In this case, please try some steps below and check if it helps:

1.First check for and install any available Office updates for your computer.

2.Please log into the web version of OneNote and see if you can access your notes there.

    3.Clear Cache:

    • Close OneNote.
    • Open File Explorer and go to:  C:\Users<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneNote\

    User's image

    • Delete folders named 16.0, 15.0, etc., depending on your version.

3.Sign out and sign in OneNote

    4.Reinstall OneNote:

Note: Please note that our initial response does not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

Your understanding and co-operation are highly appreciated. Thank you for your precious time. I am looking forward to your response!

If you're unable to access your OneNote notes and are receiving a message indicating that you don't have access or that the notes have been deleted, here are some steps you can take to try to retrieve them:

    1. Check Your Account: Ensure that you are signed into the correct Microsoft account that you used to create your OneNote notes.
    2. Access OneNote on Different Devices: Sometimes, content may be visible on another device. Check if you can access your notes from a different device or through the OneNote web app.
    3. Look for Shared Notebooks: If your notes were shared with others, check if they can access the content. If they can, you might need to ask them to share it back with you.
    4. Restore from OneDrive or SharePoint: If your notes were stored in OneDrive for Business or SharePoint Online, you can follow the steps to restore your OneDrive content to a previous state. This can help recover deleted notes if they were stored there.
    5. Check for Backups: If you have previously backed up your OneNote notebooks, you can restore them from the backup folder. Navigate to File -> Open Backups in the OneNote application to find your backups.
    6. Contact Support: If you still cannot access your notes, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for further assistance, especially if the content was deleted recently. They may be able to help you recover it within a certain timeframe.

Taking these steps should help you in retrieving your notes. Good luck with your interview!
