Help! I can't remove my account microsoft edge on mac.

I can't remove my account microsoft edge on mac.

I attached a sample photo from a reddit post here.

I clicked the trash bin button but it keeps popping up without any way to delete them.

I tried going into keychain access and deleting the ones from Microsoft with keyworks "oneauth..." but it still keeps popping up.

It's getting frustrating. Please help me.

Based on your information, you're trying to remove a persistent Microsoft account from Edge on your MacBook. This issue is common because the account is saved in your Mac's Keychain, which shares it with other Microsoft apps like Office and Teams.

To completely remove it, kindly follow these steps:

1. Sign Out of All Microsoft Apps

First, you must sign the account out of every other Microsoft application on your Mac.

Open Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, OneDrive, or Teams.
Click the application name in the top menu bar (e.g., "Word").
Click "Sign Out..." and confirm. This often signs you out of all Office apps at once.
Make sure this is done for any app that still shows you as signed in with the unwanted account.

2. Remove the Profile from Edge

Now, remove the profile from Edge itself.

In Edge, go to edge://settings/profiles
Find the profile you want to remove.
Click the ... (three-dots) icon next to it and select "Remove" (or click the trash bin icon).

3. Thoroughly Clear Your macOS Keychain

Completely quit Microsoft Edge (press Cmd + Q).
Open the Keychain Access app (you can find this using Spotlight search: Cmd + Space).
In the search bar in the top-right corner of the Keychain Access window, search for the following terms, one by one.
For each term, find any entries related to the account you want to remove, right-click them, and select "Delete...".

Search for these terms: Microsoft, Edge, Office, ADAL, com.microsoft

Note: You may see many entries. Look for any that are "Microsoft Account" or "Microsoft Office" credentials. Deleting these is normal; it will just require you to sign back into your desired accounts later.

4. Restart and Check

Hi @Ian-Ng

I did all of the specified instructions but still ended up with the same issue.

I deleted all entries under keychain access BUT 2 — they were named Microsoft ECC Root Certificate Authority 2017. I didn’t delete these since they were under System Roots.

I am now under Profile 2 (since I deleted profile 1 earlier) but I am still getting the dropdown options with emails that I wanted to remove… I attached an image.

I’d like further help on this. Thanks.

Thank you for your update and for trying those initial steps. The “Microsoft ECC Root Certificate Authority 2017” items are trusted system certificates and are not related to the account suggestions in Edge.

The fact that the accounts still appear suggests the data is cached directly within Edge's own profile files, not just the shared Keychain. The next step is a more in-depth reset of Edge's local data.

Note: please make sure every single Microsoft application is completely quit (like Edge, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, Word, Excel,.. ).

Step 1: Final Keychain cleanup

Let's do one final, targeted check of the "login" keychain.

Open Keychain Access.

In the top-left "Keychains" panel, ensure "login" is selected.

In the search bar, search for the following terms one by one. If you find any, right-click and delete them:

OneAuth (especially OneAuthAccount entries)

ADAL (especially AdalCache)

Microsoft (delete any "Microsoft Account" or "Microsoft Office" credentials you may have missed)

Step 2: Reset Edge's local profile data

This step will manually remove Edge's profile folders, forcing it to rebuild them.

In the top menu bar, click Go > Go to Folder... (or press Shift-Cmd-G).

Copy and paste this exact path, then press Enter: ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft Edge/

In this folder, drag the following items to the Trash:

Any Profile folders (e.g., Profile 1, Profile 2, Default)

The file named Local State

Now, go back to the Go to Folder... dialog (Shift-Cmd-G).

Copy and paste this path to clear the cache, then press Enter: ~/Library/Caches/

Find the Microsoft Edge folder inside "Caches" and drag it to the Trash.

Empty the trash.

Step 3: Reset Edge and rebuild your profile

Open Microsoft Edge. It should now be in a "first run" state, as if it were just installed.

It will prompt you to create a new profile. Choose "Start without your data".

Once the new, clean profile is created, sign in only with your one, preferred Microsoft account.

If desired, you can now turn on Sync.

This process is the most thorough method to clear all local account traces from Edge.
