Try this. It should force Edge to reload the various search engine options.

Close Microsoft Edge.

Type cmd into search then right click on Command Prompt and run as administrator.

Copy and paste in the following code then press enter:

taskkill /im msedge.exe /f & timeout /t 3 & del "%localappdata%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default\Web Data" /f

This terminates any running instance of msedge, waits three seconds for the processes to close, then deletes the Web Data file.

When you next start Edge, the default Web Data file be regenerated and you should now be able to choose Google in the address bar search options.

If you haven't already, you can easily change that by following these steps:

Open Microsoft Edge and press Alt + F keys to bring menu, then click on "Settings".
Click "Privacy, search, and services"
Scroll down and select Address bar and search.
Under “Search engine used in the address bar,” choose Google from the dropdown menu.

I understand that only Bing is showing as an option, that can happen if your device is running Windows 11 or 10 in S Mode. In S Mode, Microsoft restricts changes to the default browser and search engine for security reasons, which means Google won’t appear as an option in Edge.

To confirm, please check if your device is in S Mode:

Open Settings > System > About.

Look under Windows specifications and see if it says “Windows 10/11 in S Mode.”

If it does, that explains why you’re unable to change the search engine. In that case, please try repairing Microsoft Edge to fix any possible configuration issues:

Make sure your browser is closed, and you have administrative rights to your device.

Press the Windows + I key to open Settings. > Click on the "Apps" tab.

Click on "Installed apps." > Scroll through the app list or use the search bar to locate the Microsoft Edge.

Click the three-dots menu (...) next to Microsoft Edge and select "Modify"

When prompted to allow changes, select Yes.

Now, make sure you're connected to the internet and choose Repair. This process should not affect your browser data and settings.

Wait for the process to complete, after that, Edge will open, close it and restart your PC.

If the issue still persists, could you please tell me your Windows version? You can check it by pressing Windows + R, typing winver and pressing Enter.

I recommend reinstalling Windows 11 via Settings and performing an in-place upgrade. Here's how:

Go to Settings > System > Recovery.

In "Fix problem using Windows Update", click "Reinstall now".

This will download Repair Upgrade and reinstall Windows similar to an In-Place Upgrade, preserving your apps, files, and settings.

The process will download and restart your PC several times. This may take some time, so please be patient and do not interrupt the process.

Once done, please update Edge again and/or repair it using the steps again earlier.

This does not work. Regardless of how many times I change the default using the instructions, clear my cache, restore to factory settings, disable extensions, my new out of the box Dell will not load anything but Bing. I loathe Bing and MSN.

What year was this? Oh, 2025. Well my Edge browser in 2025 is not even showing Google as an option. I've followed various suggestions on how to add Google and they do not work. The only searcher on Edge settings is BING and it's highlighted, while there are others there as if you could choose them they are greyed and you can't click them. smh Edge and MS at it again trying to force feed us.
