    Hi @Ellen Quinn,

It's wonderful news that your issue has been resolved. I truly appreciate your effort in finding a resolution. I believe that many users may encounter similar issue, and your case could serve as a valuable reference for them.

Therefore, I would make a brief summary of this post so that other forum members could easily find useful information here:

    Issue Description:

After upgrading to an iPhone 15, Microsoft Authenticator no longer displayed the two-digit number required for password reset in Microsoft Teams. Instead, it only showed the standard 6-digit verification code. This prevented the user from completing the sign-in or password reset process.

    Assessment:

The issue stemmed from a mismatch between the expected authentication method (number matching) and the available method (time-based one-time password). This often happens when the Authenticator app is reinstalled or set up on a new device without re-registering it with the Microsoft account.

    Resolution:

The user resolved the issue by logging into their Microsoft Office account and removing Microsoft Authenticator as a required sign-in method. They then replaced it with their mobile phone number for verification. This allowed them to bypass the Authenticator app and regain access to their account.

As other users may search for similar issues in this forum, your post and solution will be a helpful reference. If you found this helpful, consider voting or marking it as a solution to make it easier for others to find.

We truly appreciate your time and cooperation throughout the resolution of this matter. Thank you for being a valued customer and for contacting us on the Microsoft Q&A forum.

If you need any other assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out again and I would be happy to help you.

    Hi @Ellen Quinn,

Good day! Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum and sharing your detail.

Thank you for contacting us regarding the issue you're experiencing with your account sign in.

I understand you're currently unable to access your account because you're not receiving the authentication code.

To help determine the best solution for your situation, could you please confirm there is any other global admin in your organization who still has access to their account?

This information will help us identify the most appropriate next steps.

In the meantime, you can find this function:

Option 1: Use alternate sign-in methods

    • Sign in with another login option (if your phone number has been set up as an additional sign-in option)
    • When you try to log in at https://office.com, click on the "Sign-in options".

    • If your phone number was previously registered to your account, you may be able to choose to receive a verification code via SMS or phone call instead of entering your password.

Option 2:  Contact your IT administrator

If you’re not an administrator, you can simply reach out to your IT administrator and share the steps below so they can help reset your MFA settings for you.

Revoke MFA sessions and require re-register in the Microsoft Entra admin center:

For step-by-step details, see the official Microsoft documentation: Manage authentication methods for Microsoft Entra multi-factor authentication - Microsoft Entra ID

If you’re unsure who the Global Admin is within your school account's organization, you can find guidance on locating them here:  How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support

Once this is done, you’ll be prompted to set up MFA again on your device during your next sign-in.

Note: Please understand that our initial response may not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

Thank you for your patience and your understanding. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

I'm looking forward for your reply.
