Stuck in bootloader (fastboot) menu. Initially was able to get to the recovery menu and tried to sideload via adb the image file downloaded from Microsoft. When I rebooted it went into a bootloop and will not go into recovery menu. Since I did not unlock bootloader in Android prior to crash I believe my only option is to try EDL to get the system recovered/restored to working state. Where can I get the necessary EDL files for this effort. Thanks

Except it happened to a new Surface duo 2 new out of the box 30 hours of use. somehow an android update bricked it. complained it was currupt and not secure, and booted into the bootloader with 3 options: Start, Recovery, shut down. Its in a boot loop. nothing will work. Will be detected as fastboot but will not go into recovery mode, as it will just reboot back again into the bootloader. (which detects as fastboot on the pc). So recovey mode is not an option. Fastboot command can tell the device to reboot into recovery mode, but then that just reboots back again to the bootloader. I can't boot an image or flash an image since i never unlocked the bootloader or enabled development mode. so fastboot will not enable flashing. I was able to get out of the bootloader pushing power on an option then holding down power and volume down to get into edl mode. I can exit edl mode by holding down power for a long time, but turing it back on goes back into the bootloader.
So if device manager shows QUSB_BLK then it is in EDL mode, and I need the driver, and the image file to flash. I take it its the ELF files.

Use an EDL client tool like the one from
https://github.com/bkerler/edl
to identify your specific HWID and PK_HASH when the device is in EDL mode

- Unlocked / exploitable
- Secured with Microsoft production key

At this point, the available options depend on the device’s current state:
If it can enter fastboot, recovery or flashing may still be possible.
If it is only detected as Qualcomm 9008 (EDL mode) and cannot access fastboot, there is no public recovery method. In that case, the only viable solutions are Microsoft-authorized repair or motherboard-level reprogramming by a specialist.

2026-02-16T04:57:05.9166667+00:00 Same issue, I can get into edl mode. Bootloader is locked, fastboot just keeps looping/rebooting. My device was brand new but a Microsoft update messed it up, didn't realize until I tried to power it up. I'm still milking the life out of my surface duo 1 first before I switch as these things can be easily broken. So I didn't realize my surface duo 2 was messed up like a year or so later after purchasing it.
