How can I stop Microsoft Edge from automatically opening new tabs with unwanted websites when I click on a link? It's frustrating to have to close the unwanted tab and navigate back to the original one. Is there a setting or extension that can stop this behavior?

NOTHING WORKS .... what was worse was redirected to sight that scammed me out of 23,000 dollars .... site pretended to be Microsoft Security warning me of a serious hack attack on my computer. Brilliantly done. FBI has said that this scam yielded over 540 million dollars in just 5 months. I think we should see if a class action suit can be organized to recapture our losses from Microsoft. Thoughts on the matter, anyone???

This mainly happens to me while shopping at Walmart, Amazon and Home Depot and back space doesn't always reload the page I was redirected from...I know it is a hacking virus but no free solutions seem to be working. Security online is such a pain

This worked for a few months and then I picked up the malware again. I tried all the recommendations to include reinstalling the browsers but the bug remains. I do not have this issue with duckduckgo. I suspect it may be in registry file.

2026-03-02T21:49:19.48+00:00 Just so everyone may know, I set up Duckduckgo as my default browser and that seems to have fixed the problem...however...when I go to my Yahoo for my email, it always redirects, so stopping the redirect must be exclusive to the Duckduckgo browser. If something changes, I'll update this comment.
