Modifying Server Defaults

When it is initially installed, the Domain Name System (DNS) server role is configured with default settings that are appropriate for most deployments. You should change these defaults only when you know that such changes are necessary for your DNS infrastructure.

Default settings that you can change include the following:

• The IP addresses that the DNS server will use to communicate with DNS clients and other DNS servers

• Default aging and scavenging properties that control how stale resource records are deleted

To complete this task, you can perform the following procedures:

• Restrict a DNS Server to Listen Only on Selected Addresses

• Set Default Aging and Scavenging Properties for Zones on the DNS Server
