Code 48: The software for this device has been blocked from starting because it is known to have problems with Windows

Applies To: Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista

Device Manager displays the following message in the Device Properties dialog box, on the General tab, in the Device Status text box:

The software for this device has been blocked from starting because it is known to have problems with Windows. Contact the hardware vendor for a new driver. (Code 48)

Diagnosis

Due to incompatibility with Windows, the driver for this device has been prevented from loading.

Resolution

Obtain and install a new or updated driver from the hardware vendor.
